Graduated with FIRST class Honours in BSc Computer Science

Undertook a final year project( http://www.i-scream.org), weighted 25% of the year, to design and develop a "centralised computer monitoring system". The project made use of a range of technologies including Java, CORBA, C++, SQL, CGI and PHP. Final year modules included Distributed Systems, Programming & Pragmatics, Databases & Information Systems and Computer Security & Cryptography.
Previous years modules
included Object Orientated Design and Implementation using Java, Functional Programming, Operating Systems, Computer Networks & Communication, Computer Architecture, Parallel Programming, and Compiling Techniques. Second year project to design and implement a chat system was top rated by members of staff and received an award from Philips Research Laboratories.
Course has partial accreditation by the IEEE and BCS, and funding for Sun Java Certification exams.

I gained both my A Level and GCSE qualifications during my time at school;

A-Level (1995 - 1997) : Maths (B), Further Maths (C), Politics (D)
GCSE (1993 - 1995) : 10 A - C grades (including Maths, English, Sciences)

Strong involvement with the IT network, providing technical assistance and support. Stood in as Network Manager when the school was without a full time member of staff.

Assisting with the maintenance of the Computer Science Department's Unix and PC based systems, including both upgrades to both system and application software. Maintenance and updating of Web based systems run within the Computer Science Department and the design and implementation of new services.

Assistant Computing Officer (part-time)
University of Kent Templeman Library: Nov 1999 - Jun 2001

Working as part of a small proactive team to maintain, develop, and support the library's computer network. This involves managing a large (100+ workstations) Windows NT domain within a campus wide network infrastructure, alongside maintaining a selection of unix-based servers (Solaris, FreeBSD) providing cdrom, database, web and e-mail services. Main tasks are upgrading both hardware and software of the entire network during the summer of 2000, and rebuilding all of the public access terminals with updated software.

IT Assistant & Technician
Truro College : Oct 1997 - Oct 1998

Working as an IT support assistant in the College Library; involved aiding Internet and CDROM based research, and taking classes in Internet Research methods with both students and staff. The latter part of the year was spent working as an IT technician upgrading the college computer network. Also gained an NVQ3 during the year.
